The average coin shooter that hunts in only a 20 x 20 foot radius has the potential of 57,600 coin targets. That means it can be pretty easy to miss some coins that are so close to being detected. Knowing some tips on ways to improve your coin shooting abilities can help you find more coins.
Tip 1 – Find good areas to search
You’re going to need to find some good areas for coin shooting to increase your probability of finding coins. Edges where the grass meets the surface near curbs and sidewalks are a great place to search for coins. Beaches and parks are a great area to coin shoot with endless opportunities. Even areas that contain brush can net some older coins, since in the past these areas might have been in use which can unveil some coins with some history to them.
Tip 2 – Do a crisscross search
Let’s face it coins are small making them tough to find. It’s best to pick an area and section it off and search by moving from left to right.
Tip 3 – Use spill patterns in larger areas
Beaches and fields are huge with tons of space and opportunity to coin shoot. First, you want to find a good spot by randomly scanning until you find coins. Once you search and find some coins, circle around that area. If you are able to find more coins in that area, move into a larger section to search around areas of your previous finds in a diagonal or crisscross like pattern.
Tip 4 – Invest in a quality pinpoint probe
Quality pinpoint probes are worth the investment when coin shooting. So, you need to spend some coin to gain some coin. Buying and using a high quality pinpoint probe is going to narrow down your coin shooting focus, thus increasing recovery speed and depth by up to 3 inches which can be the difference of finding and not finding a coin.
Tip 5 – Use quality headphones
Silence is not a good sound to hear when treasure hunting with headphones. Sometimes coins often result in faint tones which will require very careful listening skills. That is why it is key to invest in a quality pair of headphones that feature additional frequencies with amplification range.
Tip 6 – Have coil discipline
Besides being patient, coil discipline is a great way to increase your odds in finding more coins. Keeping a coil low to the ground with slow overlapping sweeps will fully help search an area.
Tip 7 – Use a quality digging trowel
Digging can be tough; a quality tempered steel digging trowel with a saw edge can dig through grass and roots easier with clean cut holes preventing damage.
